The Muslim Experience in America - a program with All Saints', Peterborough

On the weekend of February 27-28, Peterborough’s Mariposa Museum and All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Peterborough, will host a two-part program, “Islam in America” and “Ask a Muslim Anything.”

At the Mariposa Museum, Saturday, February 27 at 3:00pm, Exeter NH resident Robert Azzi will offer “From Goree to Trump Tower – The Muslim Experience in America.”  He will present an illustrated survey of Muslims and Islam in America from the dark days of slavery to the Ground Zero controversy to the San Bernadino terror; from attempts to portray President Obama as Other, not just by being African American but by casting him, falsely, as Muslim to the current wave of anti-Muslim invective being visited now particularly on American Muslims.  Azzi will offer his personal commentary on being Muslim in America today, followed by an open Q&A with attendees.  Attendance is $10 per person, Mariposa members no charge.

At All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Sunday, February 28, at 12 noon, the public is invited to “Ask a Muslim Anything.”  Reverend Jamie Hamilton will moderate a discussion between Robert Azzi and all who attend.  No topic is off limits and it will be an opportunity for the Monadnock community to engage in conversation about identity, interfaith relations, international affairs and Islamaphobia.  This event is free and all are welcome.

Arab American Muslim Robert Azzi, a photojournalist and columnist, has spent several decades working in and writing about the Middle East and is often published in the Keene Sentinel, Concord Monitor and Portsmouth Herald.

Events will be held at Mariposa Museum, 26 Main Street, Peterborough, and Reynolds Hall across from All Saints’ Church, 51 Concord Street, Peterborough.  For more information call the Church office at 924-3202, or visit www.allsaintsnh.org  or www.mariposamuseum.org.
