General Convention Approves Marriage Equality in Episcopal Church

Following the U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage for all Americans, the General Convention of The Episcopal Church followed suit with canonical and liturgical changes to provide marriage equality for Episcopalians.

ON July 1, The House of Deputies concurred with the House of Bishops on a canonical change eliminating language defining marriage as between a man and a woman and authorizing two new marriage rites with language allowing them to be used by same-sex or opposite-sex couples.
