Ashes to Go offered on New Hampshire Main Streets and Backroads

Ash Wednesday (Wednesday, February 18, 2015) starts Lent, the period leading up to Easter. “Ashes to Go” are being offered by the Episcopal Church of New Hampshire in several locations around the State.

CONCORD  Ashes will be administered in Eagle Square, Main Street, Concord, from 12 pm – 1 pm, by The Rt. Reverend A. Robert Hirschfeld, Bishop of New Hampshire, Rev. Kate Atkinson, Rector, St. Paul’s Church, Concord and Rev. Jason Wells, Rector, Grace Church, East Concord.

NEWPORT  The Rev. Alice Roberts of Epiphany Church, Newport, will offer Ashes to Go at the Wednesday Rotary Club Meeting and local Nursing Home.

PORTSMOUTH  Charlie Nichols and Linda McVay, two members of the St. John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth Pastoral Care Team, will be offering “Ashes to Go” in Market Square, downtown Portsmouth, from 7:30 am - 9:00 am, and from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm.

PLYMOUTH   The Rev. Grace Burson of Church of the Holy Spirit, Plymouth, will administer ashes on Main Street in Plymouth from 2 pm – 4 pm.

Ash Wednesday is marked by prayer and fasting in the Christian faith. To observe this holy day, ashes are placed on foreheads as a reminder of human mortality. “Ashes to Go” is about bringing spirit, belief, and belonging out from behind church doors, and into the places where we go every day.   For more information on Ashes to Go across the country, visit
